LUKE BLUMER & SON
HARTLEPOOL
1849 - 1868
The firm of Luke Blumer & Son commenced shipbuilding in 1849, although they were primarily a ship repair company and only filled in with shipbuilding when repair work was quiet. His son George, who had taken over the business, died in 1867. The yard and a vessel on the slipway were then taken over by Denton Gray, whose own shipyard was next door.
Early yard numbers may have been allocated later by researchers rather than at the time of building.
