In the official papers on the liquidation of the British & American Steam Navigation Co Ltd in 1866 and subsequently in the National Archives [BT 31/1108/2160C; J 91/69] there is an interesting note about B&A (which was owned/managed by David, William and Henry Fernie, Liverpool.
 
On 18/3/1864 The Fernie Bros contracted with Pearse (Mountjoy Pearse and George Lockwood) to built three iron steamships for the new company's trade to North America.
 
a) Price £75000 - delivered and paid for.  This was DENMARK (Yd 55)
 
b) Price £76000 - completed.  This was GERMANY (Yd 56)
