Raylton Dixon became the manager of the former Rake, Kimber yard on the site of the present Transporter Bridge, after it had been bought by Richardson, Duck of Thornaby in 1859. The yard was bought out by Dixon and his partner Backhouse in 1862, operating as Backhouse, Dixon (see separate list) until bought out entirely by Raylton Dixon in 1873.
