JOHN WINSPEAR
HARTLEPOOL
1841 - 1858
John Winspear probably moved from Whitby to Hartlepool in 1839 and set up as a ship repairer. He built new vessels "on spec" when the repair business was quiet. After the death of Winspear in 1874 the yard was taken over by Dring & Patterson. However this was short lived as the site was taken over for the construction of the North Dock.
Early yard numbers may have been allocated later by researchers rather than at the time of building.
